Thyroid and parathyroid surgery (1).pdf · p. 8
A young man with a neck (thyroid) swelling, hypertension (pheochromocytoma) and polyuria with nephrolithiasis (hypercalcemia from hyperparathyroidism) fits MEN 2A: medullary thyroid carcinoma + pheochromocytoma + hyperparathyroidism. Primary hyperparathyroidism alone (E) explains the stones and polyuria but not the hypertension and thyroid mass. MEN 1 has no thyroid tumor. MEN 2B lacks hyperparathyroidism.
