Fever, abdominal pain or diffuse tenderness and prolonged ileus after a bowel resection with anastomosis is the classic presentation of an anastomotic leak. The lecture lists fever, abdominal pain, prolonged ileus, leukocytosis and peritonitis.
- Simple postoperative ileus usually resolves within 2-4 days and does not cause fever with diffuse tenderness on day 6.
