CEA is measured at baseline before treatment and then monitored during follow-up to assess response and detect recurrence of colorectal cancer. It is not used for screening. AFP is for liver/germ-cell tumours, CA-125 for ovarian cancer, CA 19-9 mainly for pancreatic cancer, and 5-HIAA for carcinoid.
