While waiting to be seen by the doctor, she becomes increasingly hysterical and is now experiencing muscle cramps, tingling, and parasthesia. Measurement of ABG shows: PH 7.5, PaO2 115 mm Hg. الإجابة: C. Respiratory alkalosis

✓ مطابق للمصدر ABG & A-a gradient.pdf · p. 2

pH 7.5 (alkalemia) with a low PaCO2 (29) and a normal HCO3 (24) is a primary respiratory alkalosis with no metabolic compensation yet, so it is uncompensated. It is caused by anxiety/pain-driven hyperventilation, and the tingling and cramps come from alkalosis-related hypocalcemia. Metabolic alkalosis would need a raised HCO3.
