Initial management of acute pancreatitis is supportive/conservative: resuscitation with IV fluids, NPO, analgesia, electrolyte correction and nutritional support.

• Antibiotics are not given empirically; they are reserved for confirmed infection (infected necrosis/abscess).
• ERCP is only for gallstone pancreatitis with an obstructed duct/cholangitis, and surgery is not first-line.
