A slightly bluish loop has doubtful viability. Cover it with warm packs (plus 100% oxygen) for several minutes and then reassess colour, sheen, mesenteric pulsation and peristalsis.
- Return it to the abdomen only if it is clearly viable.
- Resect only if it stays non-viable.
- Ice-cold saline causes vasoconstriction and is wrong.
