Massive transfusion of packed RBCs dilutes clotting factors and platelets, giving a dilutional coagulopathy (raised INR/PT). The other expected changes are the opposite of the distractors:
- hypocalcemia (citrate binds calcium), not hypercalcemia
- hyperkalemia, not hypokalemia
- hypothermia, not a rise in temperature
- thrombocytopenia, not thrombocytosis
The bank's note ('post-hemorrhagic thrombocytosis') does not explain its own key.
