Two unprovoked generalized tonic-clonic seizures = epilepsy needing long-term treatment. Valproate is the broad-spectrum agent used for all forms of epilepsy and first-line for generalized tonic-clonic seizures (avoid in women of childbearing potential). Ethosuximide is only for absence seizures.
