A slowly progressive (one-year), symmetrical, length-dependent picture of burning feet with hyperalgesia from feet to shins is a distal sensory (poly)neuropathy - burning and pain are its positive sensory symptoms. GBS is an acute, rapidly ascending, areflexic paralysis (motor), not a year of burning feet. Lumbosacral plexopathy (e.g. diabetic amyotrophy) presents with painful quadriceps wasting and weakness.
