A seizure in suspected meningitis is a reason to do a CT before the LP to exclude a mass lesion (herniation risk). Once the CT is normal, the next step is lumbar puncture with CSF analysis, which is the definitive test for meningitis. MRI and EEG do not confirm the infection.
