الإجابة: B. Metabolic acidosis partly compensated by respiratory alkalosis

✓ مطابق للمصدر Pulmonology 🫁.pdf · p. 21

pH 7.2 with HCO3 10 is a metabolic acidosis (DKA). Winter's formula gives an expected PCO2 of 1.5 x 10 + 8 = 23 +/- 2 (21-25); the measured PCO2 of 25 shows respiratory compensation is present. The pH is still abnormal, so it is partially compensated. 'Not compensated' (A) is wrong because PCO2 has fallen appropriately.

ليش كل خيار صح أو غلط

  • A ليش غلط

Uncompensated means no attempt at compensation. Here PCO2 is 25 (normal 35-45), so the lungs are already compensating; the abnormal pH shows it is only partial.

  • B ليش صح

pH 7.2 with HCO3 10 is a metabolic acidosis. The low PCO2 (25) is the lungs' compensation, and because the pH is still abnormal the compensation is partial.

  • C ليش غلط

Alkalosis means a high pH (>7.45). This patient's pH is 7.2 and HCO3 is low, so this is an acidosis, not a metabolic alkalosis.
